Hi, my name is Vicki Draper, International Animal Communicator and Energy Healing Expert for You and Your Animals, creator of www.HealingYourAnimal.com and I am here to talk about Animals and Your Heart in honor of Heart Health Awareness Month.

If you are an animal lover, your reaction may be, “of course my animal is good for my heart, he/she makes me very happy and I really love my animal”.  What you may not realize is that it literally extends to the health of your physical heart.  Yes, your cat, your dog not only help your emotional heart and spirit, they truly help the health of your physical heart as well.

Here is some valuable information for you:

  • Research has shown the long-term benefits of owning a cat include protection for your heart.  One study over 20 years showed that people who never owned a cat were 40% more likely to die of a heart attack than those who had a cat.
  • One study showed that dog owners had a significantly better survival rate one year after a heart attack.
  • Studies show, heart attack survivors and people with serious abnormal heart rhythms who have dogs live longer than people with the same heart problems who don’t have pets
  • Pet guardians have a lower risk of dying from any cardiac disease, including heart failure.
  • Researchers have found lower level of cholesterol and triglycerides in people who have pets compared to people who do not have pets.  (some of this may be attributed to lifestyle with your pet)
  • In one study, 240 married couples with pets had lower blood pressure and lower heart rates during rest than people who did not have a pet.
  • Another study showed that children with hypertension lowered their blood pressure by petting their dog.

Wow, it is so amazing and interesting that your cat, your dog is helping you lower your cholesterol, lower your blood pressure and assisting in preventing you from dying of a heart disease.   And to make sure your cat and dog are okay doing all of this support for you:

It also soothes your pet, says Alan Beck, ScD, director of the Center for the Human-Animal Bond at Purdue University.

I know my animals make me happier.  Until doing this article, I had no idea the extent and scope of how much they were assisting in my physical health too!

So give your cat and your dog an extra big hug and thank you today for all they are doing for you.

And spread the word to help others know about animals and their link to heart health.  There are plenty of cats and dogs needing homes. For those who don’t currently have a cat or dog in your life, it is a win-win.  It will save the animal’s life and change yours!

Wishing you many joyful purrs and woofs!
